I thought it goes without saying that broadband Internet (or any kind of
Internet) would not work without electricity, but the above phrase popped
up while I was visiting broadbandcompare.co.nz.

Took me a moment to realize what it meant: it meant I also have to have an
electricity account with that broadband supplier.

electricity account with that broadband supplier.
Not worth the hassle. The electricity companies sub-let their internet
services from a proper telecoms company, so you're better off getting
your internet direct from the telecoms company in the first place. That
way there's no continual passing of the buck every time there is an
issue.
